Prepare the way of the Lord
Baruch 5:1-9 Philippians 1:4-6, 8-11 Luke 3:1-6
Many families are busy making preparations this time of year: finding the Christmas decorations, arranging space for the Christmas tree, finding the right spot for the nativity set, putting up Christmas lights (and looking for the extension cords), making plans for the gatherings and dinners and, of course, some shopping.
John the Baptist makes his appearance in our Advent readings announcing the need to prepare the way of the Lord and moving mountains and filling valleys in order to have a straight path. In the midst of all this season’s busyness we are invited to be sure that the Lord Jesus’ path to our hearts is uncluttered and without obstacles. What in our lives needs to be removed or rearranged in order to be more receptive to the words of Jesus?
Our regional Penance Liturgies begin this week. Approaching the Sacrament of Reconciliation may be a way to de-clutter your spiritual path this Advent. Come, Lord Jesus!

Prepare el camino del Señor
Baruc 5: 1-9 Filipenses 1: 4-6, 8-11 Lucas 3: 1-6
Muchas familias están ocupadas preparándose en esta época del año: encontrando las decoraciones navideñas, organizando el espacio para el árbol de navidad, encontrando el lugar correcto para el nacimiento, colocando luces de Navidad (y buscando los cables de extensión), haciendo planes para reuniones, cenas y, por supuesto, algunas compras.
Juan el Bautista hace su entrada en nuestras lecturas de Adviento anunciando la necesidad de preparar el camino del Señor y mover montañas y llenar valles para tener un camino recto. En medio de toda la actividad de esta temporada, estamos invitados a asegurarnos que el camino del Señor Jesús a nuestros corazones esta despejado y sin obstáculos. ¿Qué necesita ser eliminado o reorganizado en nuestras vidas para ser más receptivos a las palabras de Jesús?
Nuestras Liturgias de Penitencia regionales comienzan esta semana. Quizás acercarse al Sacramento de la Reconciliación podría ser una manera de despejar su camino espiritual en este Adviento. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!
