October: Respect Life Month

Since 1972 the Catholic Church in the United States has dedicated October as “Respect Life Month”.  In a rapidly changing world where the dignity of human life and the holiness of creation is not necessarily a common priority, how important for us to stand up and witness to the holiness of all life.  Is it easy?  No.  Are there political and social complications to many of the issues? Absolutely.  But, as we wade through the issues, how important is for us to witness to our belief in the sacred nature of all life. Click HERE to read more.

Praying with Pope Francis

You are invited to keep this special intention of the Pope in your daily prayers during the month of OCTOBER:

The Laity’s Mission in the Church: We pray that by the virtue of baptism, the laity, especially women, may participate more in areas of responsibility in the Church.

Statement from U.S. Bishop  Chairmen

"Racism is not a thing of the past or simply a throwaway political issue to be bandied about when convenient. It is a real and present danger that must be met head on. As members of the Church, we must stand for the more difficult right and just actions instead of the easy wrongs of indifference. We cannot turn a blind eye to these atrocities and yet still try to profess to respect every human life. We serve a God of love, mercy, and justice...

...we call upon all Catholics to pray and work toward a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Let us pray for a supernatural desire to rid ourselves of the harm that bias and prejudice cause. We call upon Catholics to pray to the Holy Spirit for the Spirit of Truth to touch the hearts of all in the United States and to come down upon our criminal justice and law enforcement systems. Finally, let each and every Catholic, regardless of their ethnicity, beg God to heal our deeply broken view of each other, as well as our deeply broken society."

PRAYER

Let us pray for a swift end to the coronavirus pandemic

that afflicts our world,

that our God and Creator will heal the sick,

strengthen those who care for them, and help us all to persevere in faith:

Almighty and merciful God,

source of all life, health and healing,

look with compassion on our world, brought low by disease;

protect us in the midst of the grave challenges that assail us

and in your fatherly providence grant recovery to the stricken,

strength to those who care for them,

and success to those working to eradicate this scourge.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Dios todopoderoso y misericordioso,

fuente de vida, salud y sanación,

mira con compasión a nuestro mundo, debilitado por la enfermedad;
