Faith and Works

Isaiah 50:4-9     James 2:14-18     Mark 8:27-35

How do we show that we are Christians?  How do we live as people promised the gift of salvation?  Peter in the Gospel makes an important profession of faith in Jesus as the Christ, a profession we should all make clearly as well, but there’s more to it than that.

     James reminds the Christian community that it’s not only having faith that matters, we have to show it through concrete actions.  Faith and works go hand in hand.  When faith and works go hand in hand, then we progress in Christian living and holiness. Going to Mass on Sunday is not the whole picture of what it means to be a Catholic. How we live, serve, and interact with people Monday through Saturday together with our personal prayer life and Sunday Mass is what makes us faithful Catholics. 

     Let us be sure that our faith in Jesus goes hand in hand with a life of generous service and love.

Fe y Obras

Isaías 50: 4-9 Santiago 2: 14-18 Marcos 8: 27-35

     ¿Cómo demostramos que somos cristianos? ¿Cómo vivimos como un pueblo prometido el regalo de la salvación? Pedro en el Evangelio hace una importante profesión de fe en Jesús como el Cristo, una profesión que todos deberíamos hacer claramente también, pero hay más que eso.

     Santiago le recuerda a la comunidad cristiana que no solo es importante tener fe, sino que también tenemos acciones concretas. La fe y las obras van de la mano. Cuando la fe y las obras van de la mano, progresamos en la vida cristiana y la santidad. Ir a misa el domingo no es la imagen completa de lo que significa ser católico. Cómo vivimos, servimos e interactuamos con las personas de lunes a sábado junto con nuestra vida personal de oración y la misa dominical es lo que nos hace fieles católicos.

     Asegurémonos de que nuestra fe en Jesús vaya de la mano con una vida de servicio generoso y caridad.
