Be Still/Silencio
1 Kings 19:11-13 Romans 9:1-5 Matthew 14:22-33
Many People have a hard time with silence and they always have to have noise and sounds and music and talking going on. Yet, silence is so important for us. We have to be able to be still and let go of all the distractions and events in order to find the quiet peace of God's presence within us and around us. The prophet in our first reading encounters the power of God not in the noises and powers of the world but in a "tiny whispering sount." The disciples in the boat in today's Gospel are freaking out in the storm and Jesus brings them calm.
Give yourself time to be still.
Don't be afraid of the silence.
Don't be afraid to remain in your silent state for a while.
In peace and quiet you may encounter God's holy presence.
Silence, though, is not a permanent state in which to exist. St. Paul reminds us of our obligation to speak the truth. If we give ourselves times of silence to encounter God's presence then we will find the strength and wisdom to boldly speak the truth to our society and world about what is right and just.

Muchas personas tienen dificultades con el silencio y siempre tienen que tener ruido y sonidos y musica y platica. Sin embargo, el silencio es muy importante para nosotros. Tenemos que ser capaces de estar quietos y dejar ir todas las distracciones y eventos para encontrar la paz tranqula de la presencia de Dios dentro de nosotros y a nuestro alrededor. El profeta en nuestra primera lectura encuentra el poder de Dios no en los ruidos y poderes del mundo, sino en un "murmullo de una brisa suave." Los discipulos en el barco en el Evangelio de hoy estan asustados en la tormenta y Jesús los calma.
Tome tiempo para el silencio.
No tenga miedo del silencio.
No tenga miedo de permanecer en su estado de silencio por un tiempo.
En la paz y la tranquilidad puede encontrar la santa presencia de Dios.
El silencio, sin embargo, no es un estado permanente en el cual existir. San Pablo nos recuerda de nuestra obligacion de decir la verdad. Si nos damos tiempo de silencio para encontrarnos con la presencia de Dios, entonces encontraremos la fuerza y la sabiduria para hablar audazmente la verdad a nuestra sociedad y mundo acerca de lo que es justo.
